Brent Larson describes his experiences with hanging out at The Sweet Shop with his mother. He recalls ordering numerous drinks and ice cream as well as getting lovefood, also known as turtles, with her there. After developing Multiple Sclerosis, she still refused to give up her favorite treats.

Location: 1113 Caledonia Street
Well, the Sweet Shop has been there for 100 years now and I’m 75 so I’ve known it for a long time. It’s right on Caledonia Street. St. James Church across the street. It’s a fixture on the North Side. It’s some place that not only the Northsiders go but they have a wide variety of candies they make and ice cream and fountain drinks still that they do. So, it’s been there a long time and it’s quite a nice place. My mother had M.S. and she was physically unable to do much. And so at Christmas I’d get her these turtles, they’re caramel and chocolate and peanut thing. And they’re quite large and (laughs) I’d try to stop her and she’d grab those things and put it in her mouth and she was so weak she could barely chew them so I was afraid that she was going to choke. But that was her favorite. She liked those turtles.
